MASSAGE TIPS

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR MASSAGE

Here are some pointers on how to get the best results from your bodywork session.  By following these suggestions you will be optimizing the healing potential within you, and your response to each treatment will be maximized.

DURING TREATMENT:
massage tip Breathe:  Breathe into the area of pain or the area being treated.  You might visualize a tube going right to that area and breathe through the tube into the discomfort or into the muscles being lengthened.
massage tip Attitude:  Research has shown that attitude can be as much as 75% of the healing process.  Thinking positive thoughts and having a grateful, supportive attitude towards your part in the healing and repair processes can work wonders.
massage tip Visualize:  Visualize or imagine your healing goals in as much detail as you can.

Visualization is the heart of the bio-computer.  The human brain programs and self-programs through its images.  Visualization is the ultimate consciousness tool.”
  - Seeing with the Mind’s Eye, Michael Samuels

AFTER TREATMENT:

You may experience a variety of physical and/or emotional responses as your body and its tissues are releasing and adjusting to new patterns and alignments.  Sometimes you may experience soreness or fatigue, other times elation and energy.  Feel free to call our office for additional information on this.

massage tip Water:  Please drink plenty of water following your treatment to maximize healing and to integrate therapeutic effects.  Your body is 70-80% water, it’s not coffee, tea or other drinks.  If you drink something other than water, your body actually has to work to distill the water it requires from these other fluids.  Your muscles must have adequate water to move flexibly.  All cells produce waste products as part of their normal metabolic life.  When your body has been strained or injured, or is repairing itself, the cells are producing even more waste products.  Increasing your water intake after bodywork will flush the tissue of these waste products, hasten the repair process, and minimize any post treatment discomfort or therapeutic pain.
massage tip Relax:  Allow yourself some slow time following your appointment to integrate the effects of these subtle therapies and to get the most positive mileage from your treatment.
